How Does IPL Work?

IPL stands for Intense Pulsed Light. IPL is a form of laser energy that targets forms of pigmentation in the skin, whether melanin or hemoglobin. The laser energy is calculated for a specific wavelength that allows it to be absorbed by pigmentation where it generates gentle heat. This heat causes damage to the cells, and they eventually fade from the surface of the skin. This process also causes the production of healthy new collagen, leading to an overall improvement in your skin’s quality, texture, and appearance. Although IPL can be used for specific pigmented spots, it can also be used as a full-face treatment, sometimes called the photofacial.

What Does IPL Treat?

IPL remains the most effective technology for getting rid of unwanted pigmentation. It’s an excellent option for the following concerns:

  • Brown spots
  • Freckles, moles, and sun spots
  • Melasma
  • Redness and rosacea
  • Port wine stains
  • Spider veins and broken blood vessels
  • Uneven skin tone

Am I A Candidate for IPL?

IPL is a great option for virtually anyone because of its gentle technology and minimal downtime.

However, the success of your IPL treatment can depend on your skin tone and whether you’ve tanned recently. Our aesthetic experts will assess your skincare goals and help you determine the best laser technology for your goals using our extensive selection at our Scottsdale office.

What is the Recovery Period Like After IPL?

Although there’s minimal recovery after IPL, we do recommend some important aftercare steps. Firstly, it’s essential to wear SPF 30+ sunscreen and avoid sun exposure after your treatment. We also recommend avoiding intensive activities or harsh skincare products. You may have some slight redness in the treatment area, similar to a sunburn. This should fade within a day or two.

It can take 1-2 weeks for your results to become apparent. If you’ve undergone treatment for brown spots, they may begin to appear darker during this time – this is normal, and they will flake from the surface of the skin within a few weeks. For redness or spider veins, the pigmentation will fade as the body absorbs the damaged hemoglobin and vascular tissue. Although you’ll see results with a single treatment, we recommend a package of treatments to fully treat your concerns. IPL is also a great option for regular maintenance treatments to reverse sun damage each year and continually stimulate the production of collagen.

Testimonials

Got an IV from Tatum yesterday at the first sign of some cold symptoms and she made it so quick and comfortable! She made sure I was well informed on what the IV had and how it could help my symptoms.

I had a fantastic experience with the extremely knowledgeable injector nurse, Alyssa, at this clinic! They were extremely skilled and guided me through a personalized skincare routine that already shown great results.

I was in need of a little confidence boost and went to Stephanie for a Botox treatment. She spent the time explaining every area of treatment and the results I could expect. Fast forward 2 years and I keep coming back to her because she makes me look and feel my best!
